Specifications
This page serves as a hub linking to the authoritative specifications maintained in each package's docs/ directory, plus draft specification work that has not yet become a landed package surface.
Current-Only Entry
If you need a single current-surface document without version-history context, start with Current Contract.
Single Source of Truth
Specifications are maintained in canonical package docs with version indexes. The current hard-cut surface is: @manifesto-ai/core v5.0.0 ADR-025/ADR-027/ADR-028 semantic runtime, @manifesto-ai/host v5.0.0 concrete patch application boundary, @manifesto-ai/sdk v5.0.0 ADR-026 action-candidate surface, @manifesto-ai/lineage v5.0.0 continuity decorator surface, @manifesto-ai/governance v5.0.0 legitimacy decorator surface, @manifesto-ai/compiler v5.0.0 as the rolled-up MEL compiler contract aligned to ADR-025 and ADR-028, and @manifesto-ai/codegen v5.0.0 as the ADR-025/ADR-026-aligned build-time domain facade baseline. Draft package work that is not yet implemented is listed separately below.
If you want the governing documentation rules, see Documentation Governance.
If an older ADR conflicts with a current package SPEC on runtime surface details, the current package SPEC wins.
Reading Order
- Read the current package README and VERSION-INDEX for the surface you want to use.
- Use
docs/api/for package selection and import guidance. - Use the package SPECs for normative behavior.
- Use archived or historical ADR/SPEC/FDR material only for decision history.

Current Governed Direction:
createManifesto() -> withLineage() -> withGovernance() -> activate()
Draft and Pending Package Specifications
There are currently no draft package specifications tracked from the active workspace. Proposed runtime extensions should land first as ADRs and then move directly into package-owned living specs when accepted.
Historical and Removed References
These references remain available for traceability, but they are not maintained onboarding entry points.
Retired Facade Package
@manifesto-ai/world was removed from the active workspace in ADR-017 Phase 4. It is no longer a normative package and no longer defines the public governed bootstrap story. See the retirement record.
Historical SDK Surfaces
Historical SDK v0-v2 package specs were removed from the working tree after the activation-first cut. Use Git history when you need archaeology for the ready-instance/runtime-helper era.
The @manifesto-ai/runtime package is retired. Its responsibilities are absorbed into createManifesto() internal wiring.

Version History Summary
Recent Changes (2026-05)
| Date | Package | Version | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| 05-14 | SDK/Lineage/Governance/Codegen | v5.0.0 | ADR-026 revision 10: root getAction(name) resolves declared action handles for tooling-class dynamic action ids while app.action remains domain-only |
| 05-07 | Core/Compiler/Host | v5.0.0 | ADR-028 hard cut: Core owns dynamic Flow patch target resolution, Compiler lowers/preserves without runtime evaluation, and Host applies concrete patches only |
| 05-07 | SDK/Lineage/Governance/Codegen | v5.0.0 | ADR-026 revision 9: canonical semantic action access is the static action.* namespace; actions.* and app.action(name) are removed from the current v5 SPEC surface and reserved public action names fail fast |
| 05-07 | SDK | v5.0.0 | ADR-026 revision 8: SDK SPEC adds projected state.* / computed.* read handles with read-only value() and observe((next, prev) => ...) semantics |

Living Documents
Core, Host, SDK, Governance, and Lineage are maintained as Living Documents for their active package scopes. Compiler and Codegen remain versioned package specs.
Each Living Document includes:
- A Changelog table in the header tracking all version history
- Rationale blocks (
> **Rationale (FDR-XXX):**) inlined at relevant sections - Appendixes for cross-references, migration notes, and deprecated content
Normative Hierarchy
When documents conflict:
SPEC (highest authority)
↓
FDR (design rationale — now inlined in SPECs for Core/Host)
↓
ADR (architectural decisions — kept as separate immutable records)
↓
README / Guides (lowest authority)
